2 minor installations issues for the appliance

Post by pe_meade_dpe »

I downloaded the ADL 2.0 virtual appliance on Friday (25 March 2011), and ran into 2 issues that are relatively minor, but which should (IMHO) be called out on the download page for other unwary users:

1) When I brought the VA up in VMware player (3.0.1 build 227600, on 64-bit Windows 7), it immediately told me "fedora-64 not supported". My "just get this thing working" solution was to go into the "Options" tab of the "Virtual Machine Settings" and select "Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 64-bit" as the "Guest Operating System". I have no idea if that was the best choice, but it seems to have gotten me up and running with the VA.

2) I don't see anything on the download page that calls out that the "jpss_adl" password is needed to log on to the VA. That information IS in the ADL_2.0_Users_Guide.pdf, so maybe this is a user "I know what I'm doing so I don't need to read the directions" error, but I think that you might want to consider including that info on the download page.
