JPSS-1 Direct Broadcast Data Release Schedule

Post by kathys »

Direct Readout Colleagues,

As you know, we are fast-approaching the JPSS-1 launch date of November 10, 2017. I wanted to provide you with some additional detail about the flow of the High Rate Data (HRD) after launch.

The nominal schedule for HRD and instrument activation is:
  • - The HRD downlink will be activated at L+3 days.
    - ATMS science data will be available at L+11 days.
    - VIIRS Nadir doors open at L+25 days (VIS/NIR science data starts flowing)
    - CrIS science data available at L+56
    - VIIRS Cryo doors open and instrument stabilizes at L+57 days (SW/MWIR, LWIR, & DNB Science Data Available)
-OMPS science data available at L+57 days
*Dates are subject to change especially if the launch date changes.

Because the HRD antenna will be transmitting instrument data for testing purposes users with a HRD receive capability will receive science data that is not ready for any purpose other than testing. Until NOAA's JPSS-1 satellite has been declared operational, its data are preliminary and will be undergoing testing. Users receiving these data through any dissemination means (including, but not limited to, PDA and HRD) assume all risk related to their use of the JPSS-1 data and NOAA disclaims any and all warranties, whether express or implied, including (without limitation) any implied warranties of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose.

REQUEST: NOAA requests that HRD users NOT publicly release any JPSS-1 data until First Light images have been released by NOAA, which should occur a few days after instrument turn-on. NOAA also will be providing information after launch to all user and stakeholder groups regarding the maturity of the data products and their readiness for operational use. Until the instrument data is ready for operational use, the following disclaimer should accompany any JPSS-1 imagery and/or data: “JPSS-1 Preliminary, Non-Operational Data.”
