CSPP Geo Interim Software Release: GRB v0.4.6 Prototype

Post by jbraun »

Dear Colleagues,

Version 0.4.6 of the GRB software package is now available for download (see the link below). The major changes included in this release are:

- Fix for when multiple products of the same dataset type are received simultaneously. Should improve the number of GLM and SEISS files created.
- grb.log improvements.
- Various quicklook improvements.

For a more detailed description of the changes in this release, refer to the RELEASE_NOTES file included in the package.

Users should be aware that there was no public 0.4.5 interim release of the CSPP Geo GRB package.

This software is being provided to users as an interim "dev snapshot" release in advance of the next major release, meaning that it has not been tested as rigorously as a major release and is being provided "as-is". Our primary motivation for releasing this software is to give users a way to run end-to-end tests of their GRB receiving and processing systems, running on real data from the GRB stream.

There is no updated installation guide for this release. Users should refer to the README in the package and the v0.4 Installation Guide for information on installing and running the software.

An updated test data package that will run with this interim version will be released shortly.

If you have any questions or comments regarding this release, please post a message to the CSPP Geo forum, or contact csppgeo.issues@ssec.wisc.edu.

Best regards,
The CSPP Geo team

Two additional release notes:

1. The CSPP Geo GRB 0.4.4 test data has been successfully tested with CSPP Geo GRB software release 0.4.6, for users interested in confirming their installation. As mentioned in the previous post, a new test data package for 0.4.6 will be released shortly.

2. An issue with the quicklook image plotting has been found, resulting in inverted Full Disk plots. CONUS and Mesoscale are not impacted. This will be fixed in the next release.

Dear Colleagues,

An issue was found with GRB v0.4.6 where the bundled Java Runtime Environment cannot be found due to a broken path, resulting in a Java error when starting the ingestor if the system default JRE is not found or is not compatible.

It is recommended that all users who want to run GRB v0.4.6:

1) Shut down the ingestor if running

cspp-rt-grb.sh stop

2) Replace the bash script cspp-rt-grb.sh by following the instructions below:

cd $CSPP_GEO_GRB_HOME/scripts
mv cspp-rt-grb.sh cspp-rt-grb.sh.old
wget -c ftp://ftp.ssec.wisc.edu/pub/CSPP/GEO/GR ... -rt-grb.sh
chmod +x cspp-rt-grb.sh

3) Restart the ingestor

cspp-rt-grb.sh start

If you have any questions or comments regarding this release, please post a message to the CSPP Geo forum, or contact csppgeo.issues@ssec.wisc.edu.

Best regards,
The CSPP Geo team

Please note that a step has been added to the update instructions for the 0.4.6 patch. Users will need to modify the permissions of the script in order to execute by running:

chmod +x cspp-rt-grb.sh
