IMAPP MODIS L1B and True Color GeoTIFF reprojection softwar

Post by kathys »

We are pleased to announce a new release (version 1.1) of the International MODIS/AIRS Processing Package (IMAPP) Polar2grid software for reformatting MODIS Level 1B data into reprojected GeoTIFF files in support of the direct broadcast community. This software enables users to create swath based or user defined domain reprojected images of:

- MODIS Level 1B GeoTIFF files for a selection of visible and infrared bands.
- MODIS True Color 24 bit GeoTIFF files.

This is a joint IMAPP/CSPP release that can perform the reprojections on both MODIS L1B files as well as VIIRS SDR files.

The software uses MODIS L1B HDF4 files as input, and transforms a select number of 1km and 250m band data into high resolution reprojected Geographic Tagged Image File Format (GeoTIFF) files. The default GeoTIFF projection is the WGS 84/Platte Carrée coordinate system. The execution takes place using simple bash shell scripts, with the user specifying a directory containing the Level 1B files, or the files themselves. A number of projections and grids can be chosen. This open source software was developed by a team at the University of Wisconsin, led by David Hoese.

This software package is supported on 64 bit Intel Linux platforms. Source code, binaries, execution scripts and documentation are included at the IMAPP website:
