CSPP/IMAPP Update to CrIS, AIRS and IASI Atmospheric Retriev

Post by kathys »

This email is to announce an update to the Community Satellite Processing Package (CSPP) and International MODIS/AIRS Processing Package (IMAPP) University of Wisconsin hyperspectral retrieval software package. This multi-instrument retrieval algorithm is based on the dual-regression method for use with either Suomi NPP CrIS, Aqua AIRS or MetOP IASI radiance measurements. It retrieves a suite of surface, cloud and atmospheric parameters at single field-of-view resolution. This software is provided by Dr. Elisabeth Weisz, Dr. Nadia Smith and Dr. William Smith Sr.

This Version 1.2 release includes these updates:

-- New coefficients are provided for all instruments (AIRS, IASI, CrIS).
-- A bug involving surface emissivity over oceans has been fixed.
-- A new surface emissivity eigenvector file (/static_ancillary/EmisEV*.dat) is available. There are now two files (land, ocean) per instrument. The main script "run_HSRTV.scr" has been modified accordingly.
-- Minor changes have been made to the source code (see the Software_history.txt for more information).

The software can be acquired through the CSPP web site: http://cimss.ssec.wisc.edu/cspp/

This package is supported on 64 bit Intel linux platforms, and produces output retrieval files in HDF5 format. The retrieved parameters are:

- atmospheric temperature [K] at 101 pressure levels
- atmospheric humidity [g/kg] at 101 pressure levels
- atmospheric ozone [ppmv] at 101 pressure levels
- atmospheric relative humidity [%] at 101 pressure levels
- atmospheric dew point temperature [K] at 101 pressure levels
- surface skin temperature [K]
- surface emissivity at instrument spectral resolution [cm-1]
- total precipitable water (vertically integrated from 100 hPa to surface) [cm]
- precipitable water 1 (vertically integrated from 900 hPa to surface) [cm]
- precipitable water 2 (vertically integrated from 700 to 900 hPa) [cm]
- precipitable water 3 (vertically integrated from 300 to 700 hPa) [cm]
- total ozone amount (vertically integrated) [dobson units]
- lifted index [deg celsius]
- convective available potential energy [J/kg]
- CO2 concentration [ppmv]
- cloud top pressure [hPa]
- cloud top temperature [K]
- cloud optical thickness
- effective cloud emissivity
- cloud mask (values: 0 clear, 1 cloud)

Instructions on downloading and installing the software as well as test data, documentation and references describing the algorithm are included as part of the release. Please use the 'Contact Us' form from our website to submit any questions or comments to CSPP.

Best regards,

Kathy Strabala (For the CSPP team)
