NOAA-21 VIIRS Blackbody Warm-up/Cool-down Mar 25-27, 2025
An onboard blackbody warm-up/cool-down test will be conducted for NOAA-21 VIIRS thermal emissive bands calibration on March 25-27, 2025.
The following sequence of the blackbody (BB) temperature setpoints will be applied:
2025-03-25 06:00:00 UTC – Set BB to 297.5 K (warm-up from nominal 292.5 K)
2025-03-25 09:00:00 UTC – Set BB to 302.5 K
2025-03-25 12:00:00 UTC – Set BB to 307.5 K
2025-03-25 15:00:00 UTC – Set BB to 312.5 K
2025-03-25 18:00:00 UTC – Set BB to 315.0 K
2025-03-25 21:00:00 UTC – Turn off BB heater (cool-down)
2025-03-26 21:00:00 UTC – Set BB to 272.5 K and turn on BB heater (warm-up)
2025-03-27 00:00:00 UTC – Set BB to 282.5 K
2025-03-27 03:00:00 UTC – Set BB to 292.5 K (return to nominal)
The OBC BB is expected to return to the nominal temperature by 6:00 UTC on March 27, 2025.
With the IDPS update implemented in 2019, no significant effects on VIIRS TEB calibration are expected during the WUCD test.
If any changes are observed in the EDR products, please notify the SDR Cal/Val team.
